Udupi, Mar 9: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) in association with VSO hosted the 11th edition of Tarang, a kite festival with the theme of ‘One sky one world’ at End point Manipal on March 9.
The event was graced by the chief guest H S Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE Manipal, lieutenant general (Dr) M D Venkatesh VSM (retired) vice chancellor MAHE, Dr Praveen Kumar, secretary VSO, Dr Abhishek Chaturvedi, chief coordinator, VSO and other dignitaries.

H S Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE Manipal, and lieutenant general (Dr) M D Venkatesh VSM (retired) vice chancellor MAHE, officially inaugurated the kite festival by flying the kites high in the sky.
Speaking on the occasion, H S Ballal, pro chancellor MAHE Manipal, said, “Tarang is organised every year. Chaturvedi organisers are doing extremely good work. I congratulate him and his team for doing good work for so many years. Vice chancellor always says that VSO is the strongest arm of our university and it continues to be. This event is important not only for the children but also the parents. In MAHE along with academics we give a lot of importance to extracurricular activities.”
Lieutenant General (Dr) M D Venkatesh, VSM (retired) vice chancellor MAHE, said, “We have got thousands of people on the ground. Tarang in its 11th edition is lavishing and flourishing big time. To me VSO is the strongest arm of the university, because any major event in university can be done without the active participation of VSO. Something I am proud of is our commitment to the environment and sustainable development goals. I am very happy to see all 17 sustainable goals being displayed. Every painting from the entrance has come out with waste. Always remember the world does not belong to us, the world belongs to every living being. This is just not a kite festival, it is being with nature, playing with nature and understanding the science and physics behind kite flying.”
Various cultural and fun activities were organised on the day. Children along with their parents enjoyed the Zumba session organised by the VSO volunteers. Kites flying high in the sky were a festival to the eyes.
The Tarang kite festival saw participation of children, students, parents, specially-abled students, seniors’ citizens and others.
