Vande Bharat Express operates with all-women crew on CSMT-Sainagar Shirdi route

Mumbai, Mar 8: Marking International Women’s Day, the Central Railway operated the CSMT-Sainagar Shirdi Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22223) with an all-women crew on Saturday, showcasing the growing presence of women in railway operations and reinforcing gender inclusivity in the sector.

The special service, which departed from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) at 6:20 am, was piloted by Asia’s first woman loco pilot, Surekha Yadav, alongside assistant loco pilot Sangeeta Kumari. The train’s operations were closely monitored by Shweta Ghone.

A dedicated team of women Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) was also assigned for the journey, including head ticket examiners Anushka K P and M J Rajput, along with senior ticket examiners Sarika Ojha, Suvarna Pashte, Kavita Maral, and Manisha Ram.

“The initiative is a tribute to the dedication and excellence of women in Indian Railways and reflects the organisation’s commitment to empowering women in all aspects of its operations,” a Central Railway spokesperson stated.
