Mumbai, Mar 8: Actress Mona Singh, who recently appeared in the supernatural thriller Munjya, marked International Women’s Day with a strong call for increased female representation in the entertainment industry.

Speaking on the need for empowerment, she emphasized that true progress lies in creating equal opportunities. “The most important change needed to empower women in our industry is increasing female representation, promoting diversity, and ensuring equal opportunities,” she said.

Highlighting the importance of nuanced storytelling, Mona added, “By having more women both in front and behind the camera, creating complex female characters, and challenging stereotypical portrayals, we can drive real evolution in cinema.”

On the work front, Mona was recently seen in the streaming series Kaala Paani and Munjya, which emerged as an unexpected box office success. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Munjya is a part of Maddock Films' supernatural universe and stars Sharvari Wagh, Abhay Verma, and Sathyaraj.

The film delves into the eerie folklore of Munjya, spirits of young boys who passed away before marriage, believed to haunt peepal trees in Maharashtra’s Konkan region. The gripping narrative follows Gotya, a young Brahmin boy whose tragic obsession with love leads him to the path of dark magic—only to meet an untimely fate himself.
