Mumbai, Mar 9: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan attended the Aamir Khan Film Festival in Mumbai on Sunday, ahead of his birthday on March 14. The event saw him in conversation with veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who lauded the actor for his fearless choices and unwavering support for filmmakers without insecurity.
Praising Aamir’s unconventional approach, Akhtar remarked, “Who else would have taken up ‘Dangal’? Playing an aging wrestler who loses to his daughter in a match—it was a risky move. Most actors prefer working with hit directors, but you take chances that no one else does.”
Aamir reflected on his selective nature, revealing that it was a trait he developed early in his career. After making his debut in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, he struggled to find strong scripts but remained firm in rejecting projects that didn’t resonate with him.

“At my lowest point, I had the courage to say no,” Aamir shared. “That decision shaped the way I function even today. Had I compromised then, my career would have been a series of compromises.”
He recalled a particularly challenging phase when he was offered a film by Mahesh Bhatt but turned it down because he didn’t connect with the script. “Even in difficult times, I stayed true to my instincts,” he said.
Unlike many Bollywood superstars who meticulously craft their cinematic image, Aamir has built a legacy of experimentation. His films not only achieve box-office success but also leave a lasting cultural impact. His 2008 film Ghajini was the first Hindi movie to cross ?100 crore at the box office, establishing the now-famous ?100 crore club.
His filmography boasts several cult classics, including Andaz Apna Apna, Rang De Basanti, Sarfarosh, Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots, Dil Chahta Hai, and Dangal, all of which have redefined storytelling in Hindi cinema.
