Mangaluru, Jun 30: Over 80 kits with essentials were distributed on the campus on Saturday.
The coronavirus pandemic has posed a global economic crisis and has left a major proportion of the country’s population mired in poverty. The outbreak of the pandemic, unprecedented lockdown and standstill in major infrastructure works has impacted lives of the daily wage workers, people living in urban slums and rural areas greatly. However, even in the time of such unimaginable crisis, MITE has continuously been compassionate to its employees and society in large. Being socially responsible, and to offer a helping hand to a certain section of employees, MITE collaborated with ISCKON and distributed essential materials kits to group IV employees on Saturday June 27 in the MITE Campus.
Dr G L Easwara Prasad, principal of MITE and Swami Rohini Suta Das from ISCKON distributed the kits with groceries and essentials for one month, to over 80 employees, which could be a solace during the pandemic. Also, MITE organization along with the contribution from its employees donated to the CM Corona Relief Fund in March.
CSR activities at MITE
MITE has been at the forefront to reach out to the less privileged through its CSR activities to shape young professionals who would bring positive changes to the world. The altruistic MITE Youth Red Cross worked with the District Administration to clean a village in Beltangady that was affected by the floods in 2019. The institution also extended aid of INR 1 lac for Coorg and Kerala Floods relief funds through the CSR initiative. MITE has adopted five villages, Kanthavara, Kalmandkur, Sooda, Belvai, Paladka and has conducted student-led social empowerment activities like Digital Literacy drive, Personal and Community Hygiene awareness through the MITE Youth Red Cross and NSS MITE. Also, a few health check camps were held in these villages. Apart from the annual blood donation Camp in association with Rotary and Lions Club, the CSR wing visits Specially abled schools every year, spends a day with the special children while extending financial support to the organizations. With this, MITE has been inculcating the social responsible traits in the minds of young students.
