Kolkata, Apr 22: Former England skipper Eoin Morgan has heaped praise on Prasidh Krishna, who continues to shine in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Representing Gujarat Titans (GT), Krishna now dons the Purple Cap, having scalped 16 wickets in eight matches, putting daylight between himself and second-placed Kuldeep Yadav of Delhi Capitals.
Morgan, speaking on JioHotstar, hailed Krishna’s bowling prowess, particularly in the crucial middle overs. “His rhythm has been spot on, and that extra pace really gives him the edge. As a captain, a bowler like Krishna is a priceless asset during those key overs,” said Morgan. “It’s great to witness his growth—not just in the IPL but across formats—and now, he’s earning national recognition too.”
Krishna’s economical spell of 2 for 25 against his former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) helped Gujarat Titans defend a target of 198. Rashid Khan also bagged 2 wickets for 25 runs, restricting KKR to 159/8, securing a comfortable 39-run win and placing GT at the top of the IPL 2025 table with 12 points from 8 games.
The defeat marked KKR’s second consecutive loss at home, following their upset against Punjab Kings, where they failed to chase down 112.
Analyzing KKR’s struggles, Morgan noted, “The team simply hasn’t bounced back with the resilience expected from defending champions. The recurring failures in the batting department are worrying, and the recent changes made to the line-up didn’t really work in their favour.”
He also referenced Ajinkya Rahane’s post-match comments about the pitch, highlighting the difficulty of the chase. “Rahane felt 199 was chaseable, but the wicket seemed to slow down in the latter half of GT’s innings, making stroke-making difficult. Unlike GT, KKR lacked rhythm and meaningful partnerships.”
Looking ahead, KKR will be eyeing redemption as they host Punjab Kings in a reverse fixture this Saturday, while Gujarat Titans will face off against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 28.
