Mangaluru, Jun 18: The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in schools and colleges shut all across the country. As a result, education has changed dramatically with the distinctive rise of e-learning, thus teaching is undertaken on digital platforms.
St Aloysius Institute of Education, a leading institute of teacher education in the city took a further step by embracing digital platform-google meet to celebrate the World Environment Day here. The college faculty made efforts to use students’ time judiciously from their homes by way of peparing for this day celebration under their guidance. Keeping in mind the spirit of nurturing and saving the environment, the BEd trainees put in their best efforts to observe the day via digital platform. Thus the institute celebrated Environment Day this year in a different way from the previous years due to the ongoing pandemic.
Lisa David (designer and environmental enthusiast, Bengaluru), the chief guest of the celebration, sharing her screen said, “we tend to think of the environemnt as soemthing separate from us, but really we are just a part of it. When we are able to see and feel this; we become more attentive to know how we feel about issues related to nature. When we feel about nature within, we will be able to do somethig for it. Instead of ignoring what bothers us, let us see what action we can take. This needs both-holding our systems of governance and economy accountable as well as individual actions, however small. As teachers for the next generation, this way of understanding and experiencing the world will become more important than any knowledge we may share."
The students demonstrated a prayer song, welcome address, dance and vote of thanks on the screen hosted by the college. Dr Farita Viegas, principal, shared her concluding remarks. Santhosh Furtado, convener, organized the programme.
