Mangaluru, May 28: Following the detection of a coronavirus-positive case of a 23-year-old man, the district administration declared a specific area Barke, Mulur village in Gurupura, as a containment zone on Thursday, May 28.
Deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh issued an order regarding the same.
The order states that the containment area is bound by empty land in the east, west, north and south. Also, a buffer zone of an area of 5 km around the containment zone has been created, with Gurupura river marking its east boundary, Kandavara village its west boundary, Addoor in the north boundary and Thenkulipady village marking its south boundary.
There are 1,808 houses in the buffer zone, and 467 shops and offices, covering a population of 5,445 people.
For an effective implementation of coronavirus control measures, Assistant Executive Engineer of Panchayat Raj Engineering Division, Taluk Panchayat, Mangaluru, is appointed as an incident commander who will be in charge of the containment zone, the order stated.
In Dakshina Kannada, 105 positive corona-positive are reported, out of which 59 are currently active. As many as 39 persons have recovered and been discharged, and seven deaths have occurred so far.
