Varanasi, Feb 23: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized India’s resurgence as a global technology powerhouse, identifying space and artificial intelligence (AI) as critical areas where the country can lead, driven by government initiatives to nurture talent.

Speaking at Kashi Tamil Sangamamam 3.0, where he interacted with foreign diplomats and delegates, Jaishankar pointed to the New Education Policy (NEP) as a crucial step in preparing India's workforce for the challenges of an evolving technological landscape.

“One sector where India can demonstrate its strength is space and drone technology. Much of our space industry is fueled by young innovators. Look at AI—the Prime Minister recently attended the AI Summit in Paris,” he remarked, highlighting how universities across the country are integrating drone programs into their curriculum.

Jaishankar underscored the need for talent development, stressing that as India continues to grow and invest in its people, the nation’s rich history and traditions will further support its technological advancement.

Drawing parallels with the global recognition of Yoga and traditional medicine, he asserted that India’s knowledge base has the potential to complement and enhance modern technology. “It is up to us to rediscover our traditions and bring them to the forefront,” he said.

Addressing foreign Ambassadors present at the event, the Minister described Kashi as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities and a cultural hub that resonates deeply across India, particularly with the Tamil community.

He highlighted the significance of Saint Agastya, a revered sage known for shaping Tamil language, Siddha medicine, and martial arts. By participating in such cultural events, Ambassadors gain deeper insights into India's heritage and national identity, he noted.

“This event showcases our unity as a nation—rooted in a shared belief system, culture, history, and traditions that bind us together,” Jaishankar explained, emphasizing the importance of fostering cultural diplomacy.

Separately, during the Delhi University Literature Festival, Jaishankar expressed concerns regarding foreign influence in Indian elections, particularly citing reports about USAID funds being used to shape political narratives. He stressed that the public deserves transparency on individuals and organizations involved in such activities.

“Available information indicates deliberate attempts to push a particular viewpoint, and this is something the nation must be aware of,” he stated.

As India continues its technological and cultural ascent, Jaishankar’s remarks serve as a call to action for leveraging the country’s deep-rooted knowledge systems alongside modern innovations to cement its place as a global leader in the digital and scientific domains.
