Udupi, Feb 22: The Catholic Sabha Udupi and Mangalore region central committees have strongly condemned the vandalism of a sacred cross erected on private land at Kudrumale Hill in Kattingeri village, Kaup taluk, by unidentified individuals.
The desecration of the Christ Cross, which was constructed on private property, appears to be a deliberate act intended to disrupt the peace and communal harmony of the district. Udupi district has been known for peaceful coexistence among people of all religions, and such acts threaten the region’s social harmony.
The cross holds deep religious significance for the Christian community as a symbol of reverence and sanctity. This incident has deeply hurt the sentiments of Christian believers in the region. A formal complaint has already been lodged with the police regarding the incident, and a case has been registered at the Shirva police station.
Catholic Sabha Udupi president Santosh Cornelio and Mangalore president Alwyn D’Souza, in a joint media statement, have urged the police to promptly identify the culprits and take strict legal action against those responsible.
