Guwahati, Feb 23: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has rescued 40 minors and two women as part of its ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable individuals, including victims of human trafficking and exploitation, officials confirmed on Sunday.

According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the rescues took place between February 1 and 14 across several railway stations within the RPF's jurisdiction. The children and women were handed over to Child Line, local NGOs, parents, the Government Railway Police (GRP), and local law enforcement agencies for care and rehabilitation.

This initiative forms part of the RPF’s commitment to preventing human trafficking, protecting runaway children, and tackling child exploitation. It underscores the force’s role as a vigilant protector of railway passengers, especially those most at risk.

A series of rescue operations took place in February, with RPF personnel acting swiftly to respond to urgent situations. For instance, on February 2, a 17-year-old minor girl was rescued by the RPF team at Kokrajhar railway station and safely reunited with her guardian.

Similarly, on February 5, the Kishanganj RPF team rescued five runaway minor boys from various locations in West Bengal and Bihar, ensuring their safety by transferring them to Child Line, Kishanganj.

A significant rescue occurred on February 12 at Katihar railway station, where the RPF team successfully rescued five more runaway minor boys, placing them under the care of Child Line, Katihar, for further support.

The RPF of Northeast Frontier Railway remains committed to safeguarding all passengers, particularly those vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation. In collaboration with Child Line, NGOs, local police, and other authorities, the RPF ensures the safety and rehabilitation of rescued individuals.

Passengers are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities, such as human trafficking or individuals in distress, by contacting the RPF Helpline at 139.

The Northeast Frontier Railway continues to enhance its safety measures, fostering a secure, passenger-friendly railway network throughout the northeastern states, as well as parts of West Bengal and north Bihar.
