Udupi, May 25: Four areas in Udupi district have been officially declared containment zones by Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh, after coronavirus cases were reported from these areas. The areas are Thenkanidiyoor village in Udupi taluk, Vaddarse village in Kundapur, and two places in Karkala talluk.
The following are the containement zones and buffer zones, and their boundaries to the north, south, east and west:
1. Thenkanidiyoor village, Udupi taluk
Containment zone:
East: Open ground
West: Samudaya Bhavana
North: Crematorium
South: Garadimajal road
This area contains 12 houses and 28 residents.
Buffer zone:
East: Laxminagara road
West: Gandhi School
North: Maari temple
South: Vadambandeshwara road
This area contains 1,360 houses with 5,442 residents, 52 shops and 15 offices.
2. Vaddarse village, Kundapur taluk:
Containment zone:
East: MG Colony
West: Open ground
North: Stream
South: Open land
This area contains 79 houses with a population of 371 people and one shop.
Buffer zone:
East: Kavadi village
West: Bannady village
North: Beloor village
South: Saligrama town
The area includes 602 houses, with 2,940 people, 35 shops and 7 office spaces.
3. Karkala town, Karkala taluk:
Containment zone:
East: Open land
West: Jarigudda Road
North: Hegde compound
South: TMC Road
The area has 15 houses with 64 residents.
Buffer zone:
East: Corporation Bank
West; Puranik road
North: Jarigudde road
South: Hawaldarbettu road
This area contains 256 houses with 1280 residents and 40 shops.
4. Karkala town, Karkala taluk:
Containment zone:
East : Open land
West: Mahalingeshwara Temple road
North: Shenai house
South: Property road
The area here includes 38 houses, 152 people and 17 shops.
Buffer zone:
East: Maruthi Gas road
West: SVT College
North: Pervaje road
South: SVT Circle road
The buffer zone here contains 235 houses with 1,175 people and 59 shops along with 10 offices.
An area of 1 km radius around the containment zone is designated as buffer zone in Udupi taluk, whereas in Karkala town, it covers a radius of 200 metres around the containment zone. Raju K, assistant commissioner of Kundapur has been appointed as the incident commander for all the four areas.
