Mangaluru: Total lockdown on Sunday - Confusion prevails in people's minds

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 23: As already made known, total lockdown has been declared in the district on Sunday May 24, and there will be total lockdown from 7 pm on Saturday to 7 am on Monday.

Like in some previous cases, the people are confused again as there is no clarity. Fish, vegetable and meat are allowed to be sold tomorrow. At the same time, the people are barred from stepping on the road. Private vehicles have been barred from moving around.

The order of the district administration has come with its own set of contradictions, the people feel. It is clarified that people attending marriage functions should get passes and the people should avoid unnecessary movement. All shops, except those dealing in fish, meat, and vegetables, have been ordered to close down by deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh. But the pertinent question is, how can the buyers reach the shops and come back if total lockdown is in force.

BJP govt., at center and the state govts., have done quite well compared to some other countries. Had they warned the people a month in advance, all this migrant crisis, waste of farm and perishable products, ban on travel, etc., could have been avoided but the central govt., was busy in its own schemes and agenda which is more important for them. They easily blame the congress of 60 years misrule as if all the hospitals and other infrastructure in the country or our city has come up during the last 6 years. One should visit BJP ruled Gujarat to see the worsts infrastructure and poor managed city of Ahmadabad from where the virus spread soon after Namaste Trump event to Vadodra, Nashik and Mumbai all on the same highway.

Lockdowns will not achieve anything unless we have strong protocols in place to identify, test and isolate people arriving into Mangalore. There will be a huge tide of people coming to Mangalore from Mumbai, Dubai and Bangalore shortly and identifying the positive cases among them is what the district administration should be concentrating on.

Kerala has been implementing Sunday lock-down from the beginning of May. People can venture out only for availing essential services (buying groceries, medical assistance etc.). Vehicle passes needs to be applied online which will be sent on the mobile by Police / District Administration. However administration discourages people from taking vehicles and will ask you to purchase from the nearest shop by walk. The same has been successfully implemented for last 4 Sundays. Some relaxation will be given in Kerala this Sunday in mobility due to Ramadan. Hope Karnataka continues the same every Sunday till normalcy.

India is not the only country implementing weekend lockdowns, even in gulf countries they are having Friday lockdowns to stop people from flocking into malls. Incidentally majority of the people in these countries are also Indians, who don't care about the virus. It is similar to forcing two wheeler riders to wear helmets to save their own heads.

The govt of today, whether state or central, don't know wat to do. They don't even have the humility to accept that they don't know.
One side they say, we have to Liv wit the virus, other side they put 1days lockdown per week thinking they can achieve something, but in reality there is confusion.
On one side central minister allows domestic flights crossing borders without quarantine, on the other side. Karnataka borders with Kerala, MH, TN are sealed.

I think this is the result of electing unqualified, fake degree brigade

The rising tally of Covid19 especially in red zones areas, are a clear cut indications, of gross violations of Lockdown rules !!!! Politicians are playing a reckless game of undermining the health of our nation, for " Vote bank politics " Maharashtra, health infrastructures have collapsed. Mumbai the financial capital of our nation, is hurtling towards a severe economical collapse... taking forth the entire nation, to desolation !!! The administration in Karnataka is reasonably successful, in containing the spiralling pandemic in our nation !!!

Sir, main reason is stopping of international passengers should have been stopped much earlier! Now, when the virus has spread randomly across the country, we cannot blame the system considering our burgeoning population, poverty, lack of hygiene, ignorance, religious dogmas, myths, lack of basic medical facilities, discipline etc etc!

When lockdown did not work in USA & other countries what do you expect here?

What congress government left after ruling more than sixty years..no good hospitals..no good infrastructure..no clean water..no shelter for poor people..Can I ask what did they do with huge amount in ex-chequer..still more than 50% people under poverty line. Migrant workers nothing but gift of congress..who are still poor.

Our govt. woke up very late.Pariament session , Madhya Pradesh defections and Namaste Trump were more important than allowing Corona to spread. This is the reason that the nation had to face lockdown which was again unscientific, all of us will face the financial turmoil in the days to come, you will also not be spared! By BTW TJ has affiliations to the ruling party.Lives have not been saved but many more have died because of lockdown. If our airports ,borders and seaports were sealed for passenger traffic in January and limited incoming passengers quarantined and tested we would have continued our daily life, produced more to export like sanitizers, masks ,PPE and medicines to the world,we would have become a financial superpower. The opposition parties have performed worse by extending the lockdown in their States even before the center did it.We have to only praise the lesser devil.

    Dear Vicky,
Do you know, in our country, 400/day innocent people die in ghastly road accidents only; do the math 400*60=24,000 saved & CORONA conundrum???

Already, the direct/indirect death toll due to lockdown might have matched the CORONA till but real rates are not in front of us!
Post CORONA socioeconomic effects will be much much more painful and prolonged than the devastation caused by CORONA itself!

It's showing its effect already; booze sales are low down in the hierarchy to show decline in sales! Only from resumption of booze sale till May 20 there is a 65% reduction in sale, still falling, never seen anytime before! This gives an indication of the most severe financial crunch that will haunt the majority of common people! The recovery will not even be U shaped but a L shaped one! We are in for unprecedented financial misery. I stop here!
    All the best to all!

    Jai HIND!
