Kasargod, May 19: After failing to get married at the appointed spot and time, a bride and groom from two neighbouring states finally arrived at the border between the two states to tie the customary mangalsutra around the bride's neck to signify solemnisation of the marriage. This incident happened on May 18.
Pushparaj is from Mulleria in this district. His marriage was to be held with Vimala from Mangaluru on Monday in the city. Because of coronavirus issue, travel between the two states has been banned and the border has been sealed. Pushparaj reportedly had applied for pass a number of times but the collector of Kasargod district had not entertained his applications.
Still, the groom arrived at Talapady border shared by Kerala with Karnataka at 7 am on Monday with the hope of being allowed to go to Mangaluru. The marriage was to be held at 11 am. But the officials refused him permission to move to Mangaluru.
Learning that the groom and his entourage was stuck at the state's border, the bride and her family members arrived at Talapady. As the district administration stayed firm, the two sides decided to get married at the border between the two states.
The district administration finally buckled under pressure and issued pass in the afternoon. The girl was taken to the residence of the groom in the evening and the marriage was performed in the night.
The couple are under compulsory home quarantine now.
