Karkala, May 8: Nature lovers have launched an email and phone call campaign, urging the government to cancel the transfer orders of Hebri range forest officer (RFO) Muniraju. National Environment Care Federation (NECF) members from Mangaluru called forest minister Anand Singh, and other senior officers of the forest department over phone on Thursday to voice their anger against the transfer of an honest and efficient officer.
Speaking on behalf of NECF, Shashidhar Shetty said that Muniraju had made sincere efforts to stop encroachment of forest land, smuggling of timber and hunting of animals. "He had exposed several irregularities. Wilting under pressure, such an able officer has been transferred all of a sudden. We condemn this action," he said.

Shashidhar stated that during his 17 years of service, Muniraju has been transferred 17 times. "Efforts are being made to obstruct such officers from doing their work diligently through frequent transfers. Therefore there is a need to pool public opinion against Muniraju's transfer. It is the duty of conscious citizens to stoically back officers who work to conserve environment," he insisted.
He said that NECF has initially begun campaign through emails and phone calls. He said that later, letters will be addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and union home minister Amit Shah, seeking to quash the said transfer.
