New Delhi, Feb 22: Elon Musk’s satellite-based broadband service, Starlink, is inching closer to its much-anticipated launch in India. After months of delays, the company has finally submitted the necessary paperwork to Indian authorities, marking a significant step toward securing regulatory approvals.
According to reports, Starlink has applied to the Indian space regulator, the Indian national space promotion and authorization center, which will review its application alongside the ministry of home affairs and the space department.

However, even if this clearance is obtained, the company must still secure an operator license from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) before officially rolling out its services.
Starlink’s satellite broadband promises high-speed internet access, particularly benefiting remote areas where traditional fibre optics and mobile towers are absent. However, its premium pricing may restrict accessibility to a niche audience, primarily in underserved regions.
The latest progress follows high-level discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Elon Musk during Modi’s US visit, sparking optimism for an expedited launch. If approvals come through, Starlink could redefine internet accessibility in India's most far-flung locations.
