Mangaluru, May 8: The work on the Kadri Park smart road being undertaken with the joint participation of the central and state governments as part of the Smart City concept at a cost of Rs 12 crore will begin today, said MLA D Vedavyas Kamath.
This 800-metre long road will be built by shifting drainage pipes, drinking water pipes, and electricity cables passing above etc to one side of the road. They will be accommodated in the underground facility. The road has been divided into east, west, and middle zones. The east zone is from Kadri police station to Akashvani on which the vehicles move and then take U-turn. The west zone is from Padua high school beginning point to Gorakshanath Hall where the vehicles have to take a U-turn. No vehicular movement is allowed on the middle zone.

Here, facilities for the children to play, walking track, fountain, bicycle track etc will be provided. The MLA instructed the officials to see that these things are provided. He said that discussions will be held with those who operate their shops etc here and suitable arrangements will be made for them.
After getting information that several trees would be axed to facilitate laying of the road, environmentalists gathered here on Thursday to protest against the move. MLA Vedavyas Kamath, assured the protesters that during the construction of this 780 metres road, greenery will get further boost and no trees would be cut down.
