Bantwal, May 7: As per the guidance received by the NSS programme officer, Madhura K, the NSS volunteers of Carmel college created awareness on COVID-19 through drawings. These drawings were later posted on WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms to create awareness among their contacts.
Awareness through PDF
Under the guidance of the NSS programme officer, the NSS volunteers uploaded and forwarded a few PDFs which were posted by All India Institute Of Medical Science which contains detailed information about COVID-19, its symptoms and precautions. These were edited by inserting suitable pictures making it convenient to the reader. It was also uploaded on WhatsApp and Facebook to make the people connected more aware of the virus.
Awareness through house visit
The NSS volunteers visited their neighbours and taught the children and adults how to wash their hands. They made them more aware of the virus and informed them about precautions to be taken. Daily, NSS volunteers visit their neighbourhood and educate them on COVID-19. Some of the NSS volunteers created tutorial videos on 'How to wear mask?' and 'How to wash your hands'.
Helped the needy
The NSS volunteers also helped the needy people without clicking any pictures or shooting any videos. By the guidance received by the NSS programme officer, the NSS volunteers tried their best to create awareness among the people around them.
Awareness through slogans
The NSS volunteers created awareness on COVID-19 and basic precautions to be taken through holding a slogan. This collage of slogans was forwarded and uploaded on social media.
Online awareness programme
Carmel College Modankap in collaboration with Mangalore University recently organized an online awareness programme for the NSS volunteers on 'COVID-19 And The Current Challenges' on 20th April 2020. Lion Srinivas Poojary, president of the Lions Club Bantwal, inaugurated the programme and addressed the volunteers on COVID-19. He also offered help from Lions Club Bantwal for the needy people in the area and informed volunteers to contact him if any people in their area need any help.
Dr Poornima Jogi, NSS implementation officer, in her keynote address enlightened them about the need for COVID- 19 awareness programmes for the youth and also highlighted how to be protected from the virus by taking suitable precautions. The resources person, Devi Prasad, nodal officer (DK) COVID-19, and NSS PO, GFGC, Siddakatte and resource person highlighted the NSS services to the nation and the common people around them. In his address, he also mentioned the importance of basic precautions to be taken and the importance of creating awareness among their contacts. The resources person Dr Pradeep Senapathi, associate professor, department of Community Medicine, AJIMS RC, Mangaluru, addressed about COVID-19. He gave detailed information about the symptoms and the precautions to be taken. He also clarified the doubts of their volunteers and highlighted the topic of fake messages, their impact on society and how to combat it. The principal, Dr Sr Latha Fernandez AC in her presidential remark highlighted spreading awareness to the common people to fight against the coronavirus. Madhura K hosted the programme. 61 volunteers were benefited from this online awareness programme. Dr Gananath Shetty Ekkar, state NSS programme officer and Dr Nagarathna K A, NSS co-ordinator Mangalore University were appreciated for their guidance and support.
Participation in online quiz
The NSS volunteers also participated in the online awareness quiz on Corona conducted by Shree Krishna College of Technology Coimbatore and received the certificate of participation. Also, they participated in an awareness quiz on the usage of Arogya Setu App organized by Potti Sriramulu Chalavadi Mallikarjuna Rao College of Engineering and Technology, Vijayawada.
