Udupi, May 6: An 18-year-old girl who had travelled to her hometown Badami in Bagalkote district from Udupi during the second week of March this year, has tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, May 6.
Udupi deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha said that he has spoken to Bagalkot deputy commissioner. The DC said that the girl had reached Bagalkot in March. “There were no coronavirus positive cases either in Udupi or nearby districts then. Therefore, she is not likely to have contracted the virus in Udupi. As the girl had left from Udupi before lockdown, there is no need for people here to be anxious about it,” he said.
The girl studying at Nitte Engineering College, Karkala, had left to Badami on March 14 due to vacations. She had come in contact with a 23-year-old pregnant woman on May 2 who was coronavirus positive and contracted the virus.
