Mangaluru: Nightmare ends as gaur gets caught, shifted to Pilikula sanctuary

Updated

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP/MS)

Mangaluru, May 5: The menacing gaur that had made an unexpected appearance in the city at various places and given people anxious moments after going out of sight on Tuesday May 5, was caught by the forest department officials and shifted to Pilikula sanctuary.

A gaur had surfaced suddenly at Mannagudda of the city in the morning and created panic among locals who were out to buy essentials. The forest department was informed of the same.

The forest department, which assessed that catching a wild animal inside thickly populated residential area is a daunting task, took the help of tranquilizer experts and caught the gaur by using a tranquilizer injection which rendered the animal unconscious.

Once caught, the gaur was shifted to Pilikula sanctuary and people heaved a sigh of relief.

Mangaluru: Gaur appears out of nowhere, triggers panic

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 5: A gaur appeared in the morning on Tuesday May 5, in the heart of the city from nowhere.

The animal was spotted at Hathill in Bejai Kapikad and later near Vishal Hospital in Mannagudda.

The gaur was later spotted at Kudroli too. People became panicky as the gaur chased away the people on the road. Some sources claimed that two animals were spotted in the city.

Women and children scampered home and hid themselves behind the doors.

The police arrived on the scene but the animal went out of their sight and a search for it is on.

The forest department, in the meantime, has launched an operation to nab the animal before it causes damage or injury.

It is being said that animal must have come to city as there was no movement of people due to lockdown.

We the Human Beings destroyed their living habitat. So animals are coming out looking for a suitable habitat for their living. 🙆‍♂🤦‍♀. Animals lived in forests n we destroyed forests for our selfish motives. In the name of development, we forgot about balancing our nature. So obviously this is what will happen.
    We're to be blamed.

Its a big wonder to see these wonderful wild animals in the City of Man galore. These are a pair of Gaur (Indian Bison ) . Obviously they have taken advantage of the serene atmosphere created by lock down and have walked miles in search of food and water from possibly the foothills of Kuduremukh or Agumebe like ,Belthangady ,Navoor ,,Karkal or Someshwar etc. Possibly ,from Kabbinale in Karkal to Kinnigloi - to Katil to Mangalore,
    i
These bovines are by and large harmless to human beings.

Forest Department can tranquilise them and carry them in a truck to release them into the Jungles mentioned above

I am surprised that still wild buffaloes are left in Mangalore. With all the real estate business the forest had dwindled and there was no space for wild animals. Hope there are some tigers are also there. Not fake but real.

    we need to proliferate nature..!
we need 60% green cover +water bodies..
Need to plan..design: rural: urban areas.
keep all 600,000 Hallis/Villages in tact like Amazon Basin.
    green patch: green cover.
and keep proliferating/Multiplying nature..'do not encroach into villages and commercialize.
we need GREENERY.. Birds: bees: animals.

Readers, it is now very evident that nature has taken over, its lost legacy !!! The air is free from pollution, the sea and rivers have rejuvenated, bustling with marine lives !!! New Mumbai creek, has been transformed into a pink splendor, with lakhs of nestling flamingos.... Likewise dolphins are seen gallivanting near marine drive, in the Arabian sea !!!! Paradise must be reclaimed from the parasitic human species !!!!
