Mangaluru, Apr 10: The commissioner of Central GST & Central Excise, Imamuddin Ahmad I R S accompanied by officers of Mangaluru Central GST Commissionerate, Customs, DRI, DGGI, Audit, SEZ and the retired officers of CBIC from the city, under the aegis of Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, Karnataka COVID-19 group assembled on Friday, April 10.
Their objective was to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the healthcare providers of the city's Wenlock Hospital amid the nationwide lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak, as part of their social responsibility.
The commissioner underlined that the nation is reeling with the outbreak of COVID-19 and thanked all the medical professionals for their relentless work in saving millions of lives.
The officers, under the guidance and active involvement of Baswaraj Nalegave, commissioner of Customs and Imamuddin Ahmad, commissioner of Central Excise & Central Tax aggregated the voluntary donations from all the officers. The collection was to the tune of Rs 4.5 lac to date with which various activities beneficial to the society, such as dry ration kit distribution to the needy and donation of PPEs and medical safety gear to the healthcare frontline fighters are being carried out.
As a token of gratitude for the service being rendered, the commissioner of central GST handed over 200 PPEs to Wenlock District Hospital authorities.
