Rome, Feb 24: An Indian-origin passenger found himself stranded in Rome after his New York-Delhi flight was unexpectedly diverted due to a security threat.

The American Airlines AA292 flight, which took off from JFK Airport, was rerouted to Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport on Sunday after the crew raised security concerns, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed.

Passenger Lucky Chawla took to social media, seeking help from American Airlines as he was left at a Rome hotel while his checked-in bags remained at the airport.

"AA292 getting rerouted due to a bomb threat has left me stranded at a Rome hotel—my checked bags are at the airport. Crew & ground staff were amazing, but I'm extremely stressed—I urgently need my bags to rebook my trip. Unable to get any help. Please help," he wrote on X.

American Airlines responded with an apology, stating, "We've reached out to our team in FCO to assist you."

Reports suggest that the flight was escorted by an Italian Air Force jet before landing in Rome. A bomb threat was received via email, but authorities later deemed it unfounded, according to ABC News.

The flight diversion caused disruption for several passengers, though all were reported safe.
