Bantwal: Assistant postmaster goes missing with Rs 72,000

Bantwal, Feb 24: Balappa Tegyal (28), a resident of Aribenchi in Raibag taluk, Belagavi, who was serving as an assistant postmaster in Sajipapadu village, has gone missing along with Rs 72,000 from the mailbag of the Sajipanadu village post office.

Balappa had been working as an assistant postmaster in Sajipapadu for the past year. On February 19, Asmina Banu, the postmaster of the Sajipanadu post office, handed over the mailbag to him and instructed him to deliver it to the Pane Mangalore post office. However, he never reached the destination, and when attempts were made to contact him, his mobile phone was found switched off.

Later, when officials visited his rented house in Kandur, Sajipamooda village, they found the mailbag there, but the money was missing. His family members were also contacted, but they informed that he had not returned home.

Based on a complaint filed by Asmina Banu, a case has been registered at the Bantwal rural police station.
