New Delhi, Feb 24: Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty on Monday announced her nominations to bolster the nationwide fight against obesity, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Murty, one of the 10 influential figures nominated by PM Modi, took to social media to nominate prominent leaders, including Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Indian Olympic Association head P.T. Usha, urging them to join the movement for healthier living.

The national initiative, which aligns with PM Modi’s Fit India movement, seeks to raise awareness about healthy food choices and reducing edible oil consumption. Murty, recognizing the importance of the cause, posted on social media: "I would like to nominate the following people to help strengthen the fight against obesity and spread awareness on reducing edible oil consumption in food," tagging Mazumdar-Shaw, Usha, and former cricketer Anil Kumble.

Murty also nominated several other high-profile individuals, including CureFit and Myntra founder Mukesh Bansal, former Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, author Amish Tripathi, and others. Additionally, she encouraged these figures to nominate 10 more individuals, expanding the movement’s reach.

In his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio program, PM Modi emphasized India’s strides toward becoming a global sports leader, highlighting the connection between physical fitness and health. Alongside Murty, other influential figures like Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah, business magnate Anand Mahindra, Olympic medalists Manu Bhaker and Mirabai Chanu, and actress-turned-politician Dinesh Lal Yadav also joined the initiative.

Abdullah expressed his support, stating on social media: "I’m very happy to join the campaign against obesity. Obesity leads to many health issues like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, strokes, and mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression."
