Udupi, May 21: A lodge in Hebri became the first spot to be sealed down in the district on Wednesday, May 20. The district, which was a ‘green zone’, has seen a rise in coronavirus cases.
On Wednesday, COVID - 19 infection was found among people who returned to the district from Mumbai. They stand admitted into Dr TMA Pai Hospital here. In the meanwhile, the number of throat swab samples collected in the district has risen to 420 and the total number of test reports pending has swelled to 987. This situation has given rise to cause of concern.
Out of six who have been tested positive for coronavirus, two got the infection because of primary contact with an infected person. A 44-year-old woman and 15-year-old girl kept in Kundapur quarantine, 31-year-old and 47-year-old women in Hebri quarantine, and two men from Byndoor taluk aged 55 and 74 have contracted the infection.
The total number of infected persons in the district stands at 22 now. A lady cancer patient from Chitradurga who was diagnosed with the infection on Tuesday continues to be looked after at Manipal.
On Wednesday, a total of 420 swab samples were collected. These samples include those of three who suffer from respiratory problem, 50 had come in contact with infected patients, while 13 suffered from fever. As many as 354 persons belong to hotspots. Eighty-one reports were negative, and 987 reports are pending as of now. The total of samples collected so far has been 3,112.
On Wednesday, 33 registered their names for quarantine. In the meantime, 31 have completed 28-day quarantine, while 85 have finished 14-day quarantine period. Two got admitted into hospital quarantine while three were discharged. Twenty have joined the isolation ward while 13 were discharged.
A total of 366 persons are in home quarantine now, with 55 others in hospitals. As many as 94 are in isolation ward quarantine. Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh visited the quarantine centre of Byndoor taluk on Wednesday and undertook scrutiny.
A total of 120 who had come in contact with infected people have been quarantined.
