Kadaba, Apr 14: In an incident reported from a village in the taluk, someone who called a Vijaya Bank account holder, sought to get OTP number purportedly for activating his Airtel phone number. In three different transactions, he siphoned off Rs 99,900 from the latter's account.
Dharanendra Jain from Bedraje in Kodimbala village, who is a former member of Kadaba Goddess Durgambika temple managing committee, had received a call from a person on Friday evening. The caller who spoke in Kannada, introduced himself as an employee of Airtel customer care. He asked for the OTP number for activating the phone number.

As soon as the number came, Jain sent the same to the caller's number with the help of his son. Within a few minutes, Jain's account with Vijaya Bank was debited to the extent of Rs 50,000. By the time he considered filing a complaint, two other items of Rs 25,000 and 24,900 were debited to the same account early morning on Saturday.
Jain filed a complaint in this regard in Kadaba police station on Monday April 13. It is learnt that in a similar incident, a lady from Kadaba was asked to send Rs 6,000 through Google Pay and then duped, about which too a complaint stands filed in the same police station.
