Mangaluru, Apr 12: Days after the first coronavirus-positive patient in the city, a native of Bhatkal, was discharged from hospital, and close on the heels of a 10-month-old baby from Sajipanadu recovering fully from the infection, a 70-year-old woman has also been discharged.
A 70-year-old lady with diabetes and a recent international travel history was admitted to KMC Hospital, Attavar with complaints of cough, fever and shortness of breath. Her throat swab tested positive for coronavirus.
As told by the medical superintendent KMC Hospital, Attavar, she was treated by the dedicated flu team of KMC Hospital as per the guidelines of government of India.
Her repeat tests on April 7 and 8 tested negative and she was discharged from the hospital on April 12. She will be under home quarantine as per guidelines.
On discharge, the lady thanked the doctors, nurses and the hospital administration for the special care and treatment given to her during her stay in hospital.
The lady had arrived from Saudi Arabia on March 9, landing at Calicut airport in Kerala. On March 19, she came to Mangaluru for medical treatment, and on March 24, she was tested positive for coronavirus.
No new cases
Continuing the momentum of the last one week, both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts reported no fresh coronavirus-positive cases on Sunday April 12 either.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 38,865 persons have been screened so far, out of whome 2,103 are currently under home quarantine.
No patient has been quarantined in Wenlock hospital, while 24 have been quarantined in ESI hospital, with one new admission.
As many as 3,970 persons have completed 28 days of home quarantine, with no symptoms reported.
Out of the 462 samples sent so far, 418 have tested negative, and a total of 12 tested positive, out of which five are currently active, and seven have been discharged.
On Sunday, reports of 28 samples were received, all of which were negative. Another 26 samples have been sent to the lab in Wenlock hospital on Sunday.
Reports of 32 samples are awaited. Seven persons are currently admitted for observation.
Udupi
As per the statistics released on April 12, a total of 976 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, with 105 completing the period on April 12.
Another 1,939 people have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 105 on April 12.
As many as 86 people are currently under home quarantine, and 57 are in quarantine in hospital. As many as 24 people were placed under hospital quarantine on Sunday.
As many as nine patients were discharged from hospital on Sunday, having fully recovered from coronavirus.
Presently, 31 are under observation in isolation wards, while 176 have been discharged from the wards, including 15 of them on Sunday.
A total of 376 samples have been collected, with 36 fresh ones on Sunday alone. Among them, 29 are of those who came into contact with coronavirus suspects and persons who tested positive.
Out of the samples tested so far, 329 have tested negative. Reports of 33 samples received on Sunday also turned out negative. Reports of another 44 samples are awaited.
Altogether, Udupi district has so far reported three coronavirus-positive cases, among whom one was discharged from hospital on Saturday April 11.
Kasargod
In some good news for Kasargod, no coronavirus-positive case was reported on Sunday. Only two positive cases were reported, with 36 testing negative. Kannur reported one fresh case, and the other one was reported from Pathanamthitta.
