Tumakuru, Apr 12: BJP MLA representing Turuvekere constituency in the district, A S Jayaram, celebrated his birthday on April 10 this year in a grand fashion. He celebrated it in the presence of students of the government school at Idaguru village in the school ground in Gubbi taluk. The MLA had come under heavy criticism from various quarters for celebrating his birthday during the lockdown, and especially for not following social distancing. A video that was widely circulated in social media showed the MLA distributing biryani to the participants at the said function.
State BJP president, Nalin Kumar Kateel, said that immediately after he learnt through media reports about the grand celebration with the participation of a large number of people, he called Jayaram over the phone on the issue and asked him to submit a report on what had happened. He said that once he receives the report, a decision on taking disciplinary action against him would be considered.
In the meantime, in a suo moto action, a first information report (FIR) against the followers of Jayaram has been registered at C S Pura station. The followers named in the FIR are Idaguru Ravi, Rajeenahalli Vasant Kumar and Honne Gowda. It is said that police were present at the party.
Police inspector, Ramakrishnaiah, stated that notices seeking their responses have been served on C S Pura police sub-inspector, Nagaraju, a head constable, and a constable. He said that the responses received from the trio would be sent to the district superintendent of police for further action.
