Bengaluru: CM Yediyurappa puts brakes on Siddaramaiah's 'Shaadi Bhagya' scheme

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Mar 8: The BJP government in the state led by chief minister B S Yediyurappa has put brakes on the former Congress government's populist 'Shaadi Bhagya' scheme for minorities.

The 'Shaadi Bhagya' (Bidai scheme) was introduced by the Congress regime led by former CM Siddaramaiah. Under this scheme, Rs 50,000 was being given to couples from minority communities to bear the expenses of marriage and also buy essentials for living.

However, no provision was made for Shaadi Bhagya scheme in this year's budget by CM Yediyurappa.

Minority MLAs U T Khader, Zameer Ahmed Khan, N A Harris, Rizwan Arshad and Tanveer Sait had met the CM and urged him not to stop the scheme. The CM had assured these MLAs that he would have a discussion with his cabinet colleagues on the subject.

However, now an order issued by the directorate of minorities has asked officials concerned not to accept any new applications under the scheme with immediate effect, as no provision has been made for the same in the budget presented for the fiscal 2020-21.

The scheme was popular among people from all minority communities, with the demand increasing to three times the budget allocated for the scheme. According to a Right to Information (RTI) response obtained in 2019, 28,540 of the over 1.10 lac applications received since the scheme’s inception in 2013 were pending. The beneficiaries however often faced problems as funds were not released on time.

The government must abolish this scheme with immediate effect !! People shouldn't get married, if they are financially bankrupt !! How will they sustain their family life, after marriage ??? This is nothing but appeasement, to influence one section of our society, for their vote banks politics, at the expense of our hard earned tax paid cash.

In Somalia, Sudan and other African countries people including little children are dying out of starvation. No provisions have come to them to sustain them and many have died. Are the provisions coming to selected people. Atleast it can be given to innocent little children. impartial God has to give to the needy.

Why do you people always compare India with Pakistan? By the way you are talking, it appears as if you want to implement the schemes/ laws in India if those are already implemented in Pakistan? Then, Pakistani law has reserved 10 Assembly seats and 23 Provincial seats for religious minorities. Do you want to implement that rule here in India?. Don't you have anything else other than Pakistan for comparison purpose?

Even I agree in principle to what you said.

But why these schemes are abolished only when they are providing some help to Muslim community? Why these type of schemes are not abolished when it is related to some other religious community?
Have you read a news in Daiji when Yedyurappa reinstated supply of 72,000 kg of rice and 36,000 kg of wheat for a single math per month?( What about the total quantity when all maths are considered?)
Do you know Punyadham Yarra scheme? Do you know Kailash mansarovar scheme in Uttar Pradesh where pilgrims are paid about 1 lakh rupees? Do you know mere buzurg mere teerth scheme of uttarakhnad? Do you know Kailash mansarovar and sindhu yatra scheme of Gujarat?
But you were only concerned about Hajj subsidy which was not at a cash subsidy in real terms.
Do you still beleieve that this is a good decision by Yedyurappa?

Dear Nawaz, dont compare subsidy to mansasarovar etc given to Hindus. Such travel subsidies were given for HAJ travel also. Here the issue is helping poor people getting married. these kind of schemes can be done religion neutral considering poor people are there in every community. Only appeasers like Siddu can touch schmes like these.

    Nawaz, I will answer you.
Any simple move towards true secularism need to be appreciated.
If all the schemes mentioned by you for Hindu pilgrimages are removed, I will be very happy.

BJP has come to power very recently. All the years since independence, Muslims were happily enjoying the freebies from the Congress governments. Let the Hindus of UP and Gujrat too enjoy some freebies for sometime. But ultimately it all should stop.

Regarding your query about rice and grains to mutts... Do you think Swamijis eat all those grains? There is Nithya Dasoha, where everyone irrespective of religion come and quench their hunger at noon in these mutts. Do you have any idea how many Muslim students are there in Siddaganga mutt or Panchakshari Gawayi mutt?

So let us not argue without facts. Let us appreciate Yedyurappa for removing shadi bhagya and hope all the pilgrimage freebies are removed too.
