Tumakuru, Feb 24: Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the recent attack on Mysuru’s Udayagiri police station as a political tool. Speaking to reporters in Tumakuru, where he attended a District KDP progress review meeting, Parameshwara stated that the police had taken swift action and arrested all those responsible for the attack.
“The investigation is progressing, but the BJP is making baseless statements to politicize the incident,” he said.
The BJP had sought permission to stage a protest in Mysuru over the attack but was denied by the police. The party has now approached the High Court for approval. “We will wait for the court’s decision,” Parameshwara added. He cautioned against turning the incident into a political controversy and emphasized the need for legal proceedings to take their course.
Crackdown on Narcotics in Mangaluru Jail
Commenting on the recent discovery of narcotics inside Mangaluru jail, Parameshwara assured that a detailed investigation was underway. “Authorities are working to identify those responsible for smuggling the drugs inside. Whenever illegal activities are detected, immediate legal action follows,” he said. He also revealed that a new jail facility is under construction, and inmates will be relocated once it is completed.
Language Clashes on Karnataka-Maharashtra Border
Addressing tensions along the Karnataka-Maharashtra border, Parameshwara urged Maharashtra residents to refrain from unlawful activities. “Whenever such incidents occur on our side, we take appropriate action. It is not right for Maharashtra residents to break the law,” he warned.
Clarifies Comments on Resignation and Political Ambitions
Parameshwara downplayed speculation regarding his resignation, explaining that his comments were made during discussions with party workers in Koratagere. “My political future lies in the hands of the people who elected me. There is no need for unnecessary speculation,” he clarified.
When asked about his aspirations to become Chief Minister, he declined to comment. “Such matters are not discussed publicly. In our party, decisions regarding leadership are made by the High Command, and we all follow the process,” he stated.
