Criticising Union budget ‘unnecessarily’ is unfair: Kumaraswamy

Mysuru, Feb 24: Union minister for heavy industries and steel H D Kumaraswamy has defended the Union Budget 2025-26, stating that criticism against it is unfair.

Budget focuses on welfare and growth

Speaking at a press conference in Mysuru on Monday, Kumaraswamy described the budget as comprehensive and visionary, with a strong focus on the welfare of the poor, women, farmers, and youth.

“The burden of taxes on the middle class has been reduced, and several initiatives have been announced to strengthen the financial position of farmers. These will not remain mere announcements but will be effectively implemented,” he assured.

He added that as per prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision, development is reaching all sections of society through central government schemes.

Key allocations and economic growth

Kumaraswamy highlighted that the Union Budget has allocated Rs 50 lakh crore, with Rs 11.20 lakh crore earmarked for capital expenditure. The agricultural sector has been allocated Rs 1.72 lakh crore.

“Among all major economies, India is growing at the fastest rate. Over the last 10 years, the Modi government’s development track record and structural reforms have gained significant international attention,” he said.

He also noted the government’s focus on improving crop productivity, enhancing domestic pulse production, ensuring profitable prices for farmers, and developing climate-resilient seeds suited for specific regions.

Under the revised interest subsidy scheme, Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) will provide short-term loans to 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen, and dairy farmers, with the loan limit increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

Condemns Mysuru police station attack

Reacting to the recent attack on Udayagiri police station in Mysuru over an objectionable social media post, Kumaraswamy called for strict action against the accused.

“The rioters must be punished without mercy, regardless of who they are. Those who threw stones at police vehicles must be dealt with sternly. How long will such acts be tolerated? The government does not exist to appease anyone; it is for everyone. Congress must remember this,” he said.

He questioned the state of law and order, stating, “If people are openly pelting stones at police vehicles, what does this say about the security and peace in our state?”

Kumaraswamy emphasised that Karnataka must remain a land of peace and harmony, as envisioned by author Kuvempu.
