Mangaluru: Vikaas Group of Institutions celebrates Independence Day

Mangaluru, Aug 15: Vikaas Group of Institutions, Mangaluru, celebrated the 73rd t Independence Day of India on its campus on Thursday, August 15, with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour.

Prof (Dr) Alka Kulkarni, registrar, Nitte (Deemed to be University), the chief guest of the function, addressed the students after hoisting the flag. She informed the students that Pingali Venkayya, Indian freedom fighter, designed the Indian flag with tri-colour and Asoka Chakra symbol which symbolises the idea of India and Prof Udaya Kumar Dharmalingam, Associate Professor, IIT Guwahati, designed the sign of Indian rupee.

It was followed by an inspiring speech of Krishna J Palemar, chairman, Vikaas Education Trust, who presided over the function. He invoked the memory of freedom fighters who sacrificed their life for the freedom of our country and said that we are celebrating the day in honour of their memory. He appreciated the students for celebrating the Independence Day even braving the heavy rain.

J Koragappa, and Suraj Kumar Kallya, trustees, Vikaas Education Trust, Parthasarathi Palemar, coordinator, Vikaas Group of Institutions, Dr Manjula A Rao, dean, Vikaas Group of Institutions, Prof T Rajaram Rao, academic director, Vikaas Pre-University College, Dr Suneel B M, principal, Vikaas Pre-University College, Dr Ajay Thakur, principal, Vikaas College of Physiotherapy, and Ayshwarya K, principal, Vikaas First Grade College, were present on the occasion.

Students hosted and organised the entire function. Archana Nair and Sanjana, students of Vikaas College of Physiotherapy, Anusha Shenvi, Ashritha and Sunidhi, students of Vikaas Pre-University College, compered the programme in Kannada and Hindi. Sukshma, BCom student, Vikaas First Grade College, rendered the vote of thanks.
