Mangaluru, Jul 27: We the people of Karnataka, usually experience monsoon showers from mid May or first week of June every year, but this year, with its late arrival and scarcity of rains, people genuinely felt the need to nurture plants and trees and preserve water for future need through rainwater harvesting.
Here, we can ponder on the quote by Laura Ingalls Wilder which says thus 'If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere'.
To inculcate the importance of growing plants and trees in the minds of tiny tots, a project named 'Save green-Save life' was initiated at Lourdes Central School, Kindergarten section. Through this project, an effort has been made to highlight the importance of growing plants and trees around us.
In connection with this, a colouring competition for class KG 1and fancy dress competition on nature for class KG 2 was held on July 12.
The finale of the project was organised on July 27. The students participated in the programme with zeal and enthusiasm. The winners of the competitions were honoured by the principal, Fr Robert D’Souza. In his message he stressed on the need to grow plants and trees and save water for a better tomorrow. He also said that we need to save our mother nature and keep our environment clean and free of plastic. He concluded by saying that plants and animals can survive without human beings, but human beings cannot live without plants and animals. He planted a sapling and set an example for the tiny tots to have an inclination toward growing plants and trees.
To support this initiative, a few parents along with the students, teaching and non-teaching staff were present on this occasion.
The programme concluded with the children singing songs on nature.
Lavita and Grace Roche were in charge of the programme.
