Mangaluru, Jul 16: The inauguration of a journalism course was held at Sandesha, here on July 15.
Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education in collaboration with Canara Communication Centre and St Agnes College, in the city organised the journalism course 2019 from July 15 to August 2 for budding journalists.
To inaugurate the programme Khadar Shah, senior assistant director of information department Dakshina Kannada, Sr Venissa AC, vice principal St Agnes College, Raviraj head of the department Mass Communication department Nitte College, Mangaluru, Roy Castelino Sandesha trustee, Fr Francis Assisi D'Almeida director Sandesha, Fr Richard Dsouza director Canara Communication, Fr Valerian Mendonca former Sandesha director, chancellor Udupi diocese were present.
Addressing the gathering Sr Venissa said, "Journalists should be truthful and be the voice of the voiceless. As words are more powerful than a sword they can bring about change.
Raviraj gave an insight into journalism, the current scenario of the journalists, how news has become a commodity with keeping in view public's interest rather than presenting actual news and urged the gathering to cultivate the habit of questioning. Khadar Shah, encouraged all to write, to cultivate the habit of expressing their views through different ways, modes.
One of the rare eco-friendly resolutions was not presenting flowers to welcome the guests, but to present Farmcils, recycled paper pencils with seeds which was much appreciated.
Fr Francis Assisi welcomed the gathering and Fr Richard Dsouza compered the inauguration programme.
Surely for a budding journalist, this course will pave the path for a change by understanding the clarion call to be a journalist.
