Mangaluru, Jul 6: Vikaas Group of Institutions organized ‘Vruksha Vikaasa’ as part of Vanamahotsava on its campus on Saturday, July 6. The occasion was blessed by the august presence of Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya, Governor, Nagaland.
Padmashree awardee Salumarada Thimmakka, chief guest of the function, urged each student to plant at least one sapling and continued, "If you protect the environment, the environment will protect you," she said. She blessed all the students for their success.
Nalin Kumar Kateel, member of parliament, Dakshina Kannada, guest of honour, appreciated the efforts of Vikaas Group of Institutions in teaching the students about the significance of nature along with academic studies. India is the only country which is protecting the nature. He invoked the students to follow the ideals of the country and protect the environment.
Krishna J Palemar, former minister of state of Karnataka, chairman, Vikaas Education Trust, guest of honour, in his speech said that the college has taken various steps to implement the activities connected with Swaach Bharath, tree plantation, environment protection and yoga to make the students aware of the importance of protecting Indian culture and heritage.
P Shridhar, regional forest officer, Mangaluru, guest of honour, said that people used to cultivate, conserve and consume in olden days but the current society only consumes without cultivating. We should have concern towards nature, he added.
Dr Bharath Shetty, MLA, Mangaluru North, presided over the function and said that the steps taken by Salumarada Thimmakka for the awareness of protecting the nature and the trees are appreciable and added that if we protect the environment we will be blessed by the environment and also urged the students to celebrate their birthdays by planting saplings.
Planting saplings in the premises of Vikaas Group of Institutions Campus, dignitaries and students marked the celebration.
Padmashree awardee Salumarada Thimmakka and JEE Advanced rank holder Rashmith S, student of Vikaas PU College, 2017-19 batch, were felicitated by the dignitaries for their excellent achievements.
