Mangaluru, Nov 23: The annual sports meet of Expert PU College, Valachil was held at the Time-square ground on November 18 in an atmosphere charged with excitement and ebullience.The event was organized as an inter-house competition between four houses of the college viz Arkavathi, Hemavathi, Nethravathi and Sharavathi.
T R Suresh IPS, commissioner of police, Mangaluru was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony. Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation presided over the function. Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation, Ankush N Nayak director of Information Technology, Expert PU College graced the programme.
The chief guest unfurled the Expert flag signalling the start of the annual sports day. Then students of the four houses, dressed in colourful attire, performed the graceful march past and provided the ceremonial guard of honour to the dignitaries.
Invocation in the form of mass rendition of the college anthem was followed by the oath taking ceremony wherein Prof Mahesh, programme director, administered the solemn oath to all the participants.
Thereafter, Niyath M Shetty, Vibha, Halanker Nithya, Sourav Patel H S and Deepak K R with proven track record in sports and games at the state and national levels, ran a lap with the sports torch and handed it over to the chief guest. Subsequently, the chief guest declared the sports meet open by releasing the balloons.
T R Suresh, in his address stated that Expert Group of Institutions giving importance to extra curricular activities along with its curriculum and hence contributing to the all round development of a student is praiseworthy.
“Dakshina Kannada is a land of intellectuals and has been guiding students academically, culturally and in the sports field as well. Expert Group of Institutions being at the higher strata of education in Karnataka is a pride for Dakshina Kannada,” he said.
He advised students that as the recent lifestyle of children is limited in indoor activities, students should develop interest in outdoor activities also and excel. Participation and not winning is the essentiality which enthuses encouragement and power in us and brings about an inspiring change in our lifestyle.
He then said that it is commendable that Expert College students are persevering to reach these goals under the staunch leadership of Prof Narendra L Nayak.

Dr NK Vijayan, principal and N Gurudutt, vice-principal were also present on the occasion. Master Sarthak S Hegde (Communication Secretary) welcomed the esteemed gathering while Miss Nidhi Narayan Sports Captain (Girls) proposed the vote of thanks.
After the inaugural ceremony, students participated in several events.
A valedictory function was conducted in the evening with Steven M P Dias superintendent of Customs, Central Excise & Central Tax (GST) & Vice President DK Sports Association as the guest of honour. He honoured the students by awarding prizes to students among whom Deepak K R and Akarshitha T won the individual championships and the overall house championship was won by Nethravathi house.
