Manchester, Apr 18: Manchester United pulled off a sensational 5-4 victory (7-6 on aggregate) over Lyon in extra time at Old Trafford to book their place in the UEFA Europa League semifinals, where they will face Athletic Club.

In a rollercoaster contest, United led 2-0 by half-time through goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot, but Lyon mounted a spirited comeback. Corentin Tolisso and Nicolás Tagliafico brought the French side level, and despite Tolisso being sent off late in regulation time, Lyon went ahead 4-2 in extra time thanks to goals from Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette.

But United were far from done. Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty, before Kobbie Mainoo curled in an equaliser in the 120th minute. With seconds left, Harry Maguire deployed as a makeshift striker rose to head home the dramatic winner.

The Red Devils march into the semifinals on the back of one of their most unforgettable European nights in recent history.
