Kochi, April 19: Malayalam film actor Shine Tom Chacko, who reportedly fled from a hotel in Kochi during a narcotics raid earlier this week, was arrested by Kochi Police on Saturday, April 19, following nearly four hours of interrogation in connection with a drug-related case.

According to police sources, Chacko has been charged under Sections 27 (consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Officers confirmed that a medical examination and further legal procedures would follow shortly.

The 41-year-old actor, who gained fame with the 2014 fantasy comedy Ithihasa — then the highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year—appeared before Kochi city police on Saturday in response to an official summons issued earlier.

The controversy began on Wednesday when Chacko allegedly fled the scene during a police raid related to a suspected drug use case.

Adding to the controversy, on Thursday, actor Vincy Aloshious lodged a formal complaint with both the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and the Malayalam film industry’s internal complaint committee. In her complaint, she accused Chacko of misbehaving on the set of the film Suthravakyam, allegedly while under the influence of alcohol.

In a video posted on Instagram, Vincy recounted her experience, stating she would no longer work with individuals who misuse substances such as alcohol or drugs.

Earlier this month, Chacko was also named by a woman drug peddler—recently arrested—who claimed she had supplied narcotics to him and fellow actor Sreenath Bhasi.
