Udupi, Sep14: Nirmala English Medium School made a mark in the district by hosting a spectacular district-level handball tournament. The event saw enthusiastic participation from schools across the region and was graced by several distinguished dignitaries.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the esteemed presence of Yashpal Suvarna, Udupi MLA as the chief guest. Fr Vincent Crasta, secretary of CESU, presided over the event, while the stage was further elevated by the presence of the DDPI, DDPO, TPO, Fr John Fernandes, joint secretary: Fr Lenson Lobo, administrator and Sr Kanuka, headmistress. The event began on an inspiring note with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, unveiling of the trophies, and a balloon release, setting an uplifting tone for the day.
The speakers, including the dignitaries, imparted words of encouragement and positivity, motivating the participants to showcase their best team spirit and sportsmanship.
The tournament featured 12 teams competing across different categories: under 17 boys - 4 teams, under 17 girls-3 teams, under 14 boys-3 teams, under 14 girls- 2 teams.
The event reached its climax with the grand finale, attended by the BEO, ECO, CRP, and other notable figures from the education department. Fr Dominic Sunil Lobo, principal of Trinity Central School, graced the occasion as the chief guest for the closing ceremony. Spectators eagerly watched the final matches, and the day concluded with the much-awaited trophy presentation to the winning teams.
The management extended their heartfelt congratulations to the winners and expressed deep gratitude to the dedicated staff and students whose efforts contributed to the grand success of the event.
The tournament was not just a display of athletic prowess but also a celebration of teamwork and community spirit.

Under 14 boys: 1st place – St Francis Xavier School, Udyavar, Udupi
Under 14 girls: 1st place – St John’s Academy, Shankarpura
Under 17 boys: 1st place – Venkateshwara English Medium School, Kundapur
