Bantwal, Aug 14: While the nation is on the verge of celebrating the platinum jubilee of India’s independence, the traces of freedom struggle draw attention at Kalladka museum.

Newspapers published from August 1 to August 15, 1947 except five are also seen in the collections by museum founder Yasir Kalladka. Each newspaper reminds of the struggle for independence and is an asset for researchers. The policies of the then British administration and national Congress are recorded in the newspaper named the Statesman.

The magazine titled the Leader with 60 pages published by the then Congress explains the history of the then Congress. The pictures of Nehru taking oath as the prime minister published in the newspapers are found in the collection of Yasir. As the 75 year old collections have become feeble, Yasir is thinking of preserving them for the next generation by digitalization.

Interesting currency notes with the date of August 15, 1947 are found in the collection. The independence days are found starting from notes of Rs 1,000, Rs 500, Rs 50, Rs 20, Rs 10 and Rs 5 issued by the RBI. The collections in the museum have brightened up the independence day festival.

Yasir Kalladka said that collections are his hobby that developed since his high school days. “There is history behind every item found in the museum,” he said.
