Bengaluru, Aug 14: KCA (Kanara Catholic Entrepreneurs), held an education webinar, Drishti to help students to understand the different aspects of education from careers, overseas education and online courses. The webinar is part of a series planned by KCA toward helping students in their efforts towards a career goal, and this was reflected in the distinguished panel of speakers who covered different aspects of the education system. Over 200 students registered for the session.

The moderators of the session were KCA vice president Roshan Menezes and committee member, Marietta Vaz who ably guided the introductions and the questions posed by the audience. The session started with a prayer by Shobha D’Souza Pinta and a short speech by KCA president Hilma Roach on the importance of education and how KCA is interested in leveraging the knowledge of different experts to help advice students in the community.

The first speaker, the well known Dr Ali Khwaja, who runs the Banjara Academy who has worked with thousands of students gave a highly charged speech on how important it is to self analyse yourself for a career and not follow the ‘herd mentality’. The students asked Dr Khwaja a lot of questions on career choices, which he answered with great aplomb. The next talk was by another very distinguished speaker, Dr John Tharakan, an alumni of Harvard and MIT and a person who was on the US Presidents task force on the UN and WHO. Dr Tharakan spoke about overseas education and how important it was to look at short courses and how the trend today in the USA was for student to work and then do a degree or study. He also emphasised the importance of networking and joining organisations like Kanara Entrepreneurs. The last speaker was Dr. Joseph Rasquinha, who did his Ph.D. in Economics from St. Andrews University, the 2nd ranked University in the UK after Oxford. Dr Rasquinha who is an expert in online courses spoke about the importance of focus in doing online courses rather than just adding courses in your Resume. He gave an interesting methodology for judging the job market through keyword searches and getting the best online courses to suit your career

The session was well received by student who asked questions with great enthusiasm and all in all was a great initiative by KCA to ensure that its efforts to reach out to the younger generation. Most importantly, it was an initiative that is in keeping with the objectives of the association of helping out all elements of the community.
