Mangaluru, Aug 13: Chief minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai, inaugurated the exhibition and art camp - Colours of India. The chief minister was enroute to Bengaluru after completing various programmes in twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. He took to the brush and palette and drew India’s national bird peacock, much to the acclaim of the people present around. Ministers Kota Srinivas Poojary, Sudhakar and local legislators were present with chief minister.
The Colours of India, an art exhibition and camp, at Mangaluru International Airport, is held with an intention of bringing much needed energy in a world ravaged by the pandemic. The Colours of India, is held in association with Mangaluru International Airport by Gallerie Orchid Mangaluru. Curated by William Pais, art gallery director. The art show will also feature paintings of four artists of repute. In a three-day exhibition, the departing passengers will paint a canvas kept in the lounge. The canvas is the metaphor for multihued Indian Society and represents its myriad of colours. "As the canvas progresses, painted by hundreds of passengers it will become representation of Indianess and an all time favourite adage- Unity in Diversity," said William Pais while explaining the concept behind the effort. "Airport is a place where people of different backgrounds come together for a common purpose of going to a particular destination. After reaching the destination they disseminate. The process of assimilation and dissemination is a continuous process and forms an important phase in the cycle of life," William Pais further elaborated.
The canvases thus painted will be displayed in the airport later.
A total of 8 paintings in medium to big size canvases will also be on exhibition, painted by well-known artists. Airport officer Nirav Shah, CISF assistant commissioner Samrat Rangi, Sudha Chatarji, Dhiraj Chaubey, Pramod Krishna, took to the canvas and brush and joined in painting the canvas. The activity and exhibition will go on till August 15 evening.
