Kundapur, Aug 12: Archaeologists Sruthesh Acharya Moodubelle and Rajeshwara Upadhyaya Kancharthi have found five stones with ancient inscriptions about donations on both the sides at Kailkere, Guddettu, Haryadi and Kolankallu in the taluk. It is rare to find such stones with writings on both of their sides. It can be said that those belonged to the fourteenth century on the basis of script used on them.

Pregnant cows or cows with young calves used to be donated to the temples or Brahmins during those days. There are inscriptions on one of the stones found at Guddettu temple, of Vishnu deity with four hands with foot lamps on both the sides and a sitting eagle. Inscriptions of a cow feeding its calf and the person donating and receiving it can be found below it.

The stone found near the residence of Haryadi Puranik, near the fields next to Kolankallu Mahaganapathi temple has the Shivalinga and foot lamps on both the sides.

Some of the stones found elsewhere have writings of ‘Ubhayamukhim Konda Papammakku’ inscripted on them. The rare stones have thrown new light to history, opined the archaeologists.

Balachandra Adiga Guddettu has provided help during the findings.
