Mangaluru, Sep 26: “Every human being should live by thinking about how he can contribute toward the growth of society. It is necessary to realize social responsibility and develop service attitude during COVID as per the aspirations of the National Service Scheme,” said Shashishekar Kakatkar, head of the department of Physics and Science department, dean of SDM College, Ujire.
He addressed a gathering after setting in motion the online celebration of the 21st anniversary of NSS of NITTE Technological Institute on September 24. “Students should show interest in history, literature, arts and economics besides academics. We should always be prepared for service as meant by the National Service Scheme,” he said.
NITTE Technological Institute principal, Dr Niranjan N Chiplunkar in his presidential address said that the government has introduced several schemes realizing the need for non-academic knowledge. “Marks are also allotted for excellent achievement in non-curricular activities and pro-society work. Students should create awareness among people over the development of society, cleanliness, plastic-free society and conservation of water. NSS and NCC have the responsibility of realizing the dream of superior and clean India.”
College management, professors, NSS unit head Dr Janardhan Nayak, student leader, secretary and 100 NSS students were present.
NSS student, Sreevani Bayari welcomed the gathering. Student Kaushik rendered the vote of thanks. Student Vinay Kumar compered the programme.
