Udupi, Jul 8: Udupi earned the dubious distinction of being the first district in the state to cross the 1,000 mark in the number of coronavirus infected persons. Now, over a thousand have been discharged from Dr TMA Pai Covid hospital and other hospitals without any treatment after being under the doctors’ supervision. In this list too, this district is at the top.

The first COVID-19 case was registered in the district on March 24. In later days, two more were added. After all the three were discharged, the number of positive cases in the district came down to zero and remained so for some days. However, once people started to pour into the district from other states and nations, the number of positive cases in the district sharply rose, and the district earned the distinction of being the first to cross 1,000 cases.
