Los Angeles, Feb 22: Acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese is set to direct a new crime drama, starring Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt. The yet-to-be-titled film will delve into the world of organized crime in Hawaii, focusing on a real-life crime boss who ruled the underworld during the 1960s and 70s.

Penned by Nick Bilton, the screenplay will narrate the rise of a ruthless Hawaiian mob leader, akin to Robert De Niro’s character in "Goodfellas", who waged battles against rival factions and powerful mainland corporations to dominate Hawaii’s criminal empire. The film will portray his power struggles, violent confrontations, and his fight to protect his ancestral land.

This project marks yet another collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio, following their work in "The Departed," "Gangs of New York," and "Killers of the Flower Moon." Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt reunite after their successful pairing in "Jungle Cruise."

The film is backed by a strong lineup of producers, including Scorsese, Johnson, DiCaprio, Blunt, Nick Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn. It is reported that Johnson and Blunt initially conceived the idea and pitched it to Scorsese and DiCaprio, who later roped in Bilton as the screenwriter. Bilton is set to begin writing once all production aspects are finalized.

For Johnson, this project is particularly special as he shares strong personal and cultural ties to Hawaii and has long expressed interest in portraying a story set in the islands.

More details on the film’s official title, production schedule, and release date are awaited.
