New Delhi, Feb 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded the Hindi film Chhaava, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, stating that it is “making waves throughout the country.”

Speaking at the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi, PM Modi praised Maharashtra and Mumbai for elevating both Marathi and Hindi cinema. He highlighted the historical significance of Marathi literature, linking Chhaava to the legacy of Shivaji Sawant’s iconic novel on the valiant Maratha ruler.

Starring Vicky Kaushal, Chhaava has seen immense success since its February 14 release, crossing the Rs 200 cr mark at the box office. The film has already been declared tax-free in Maharashtra and Goa, with growing demands for other states to follow suit.

PM Modi also underscored the contributions of Marathi warriors like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sambhaji Maharaj, and Baji Rao Peshwa, emphasizing Marathi as a language of bravery, devotion, and resilience.
