Kundapur, Jun 8: A resident of Kamalashile village in the taluk, identified as Suresh Kulal (27), has been arrested. He has been accused of spreading false information through social media. He had accused the district administration and health department officials of collecting Rs 3.5 lac each for treatment of COVID-19 positive cases.
The officials who produced him in the court, said that he has been spreading false information through social media and thereby pushing the people of the district towards further despair.
Revenue inspector from Vandse in the taluk, Raghavendra, had filed complaint at Shankarnarayana police station, charging the accused with providing false information about departments fighting against the pandemic towards undermining their self-confidence. Spreading of such information also spreads disturbances in the society and creates doubts in the minds of the people, he had said.
The court has granted bail to the accused.
