Prashanth Jathanna condemns cross vandalisation in Moodubelle, community fears disruption of peace

Udupi, Feb 22: Prashanth Jathanna, State president of the Indian Christian Federation, addressed the media, stating, “The sacred cross was erected nearly 30 years ago by Joseph Valerian Lobo on his private land. Since then, around 30 Christian families have gathered there every year to offer prayers, especially during fasting periods. However, yesterday, the cross was damaged by unknown miscreants, leaving the Christian community distressed. Community members believe this was a premeditated act aimed at disturbing communal harmony in the region. Udupi district has been known for its peaceful coexistence among different religions, and such incidents are seen as an attempt to create disharmony.”

The Indian Christian Federation strongly condemned the vandalisation of the holy cross in Kudramale Hill, located in Kattingeri village, Moodubelle.

The Federation urged authorities to arrest the miscreants responsible for this act, which has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Christian community.

A complaint regarding the incident has already been registered at the Shirva Police Station by Flaliveen Fernandes. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
