Kundapur, May 29: A reserve sub-inspector (RSI) of police posted for security duty at Amasebail police station in the taluk was found to have hanged himself from a nearby tree. This incident was reported on Friday May 29 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Mallikarjun Gubbi (56), a resident of Nauruganj in Kalaburagi. He was a RSI staff of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) Force. He had arrived at Amasebail police station located in the naxal-infested belt on May 15. On Thursday night, he had gone to bed in the quarters. After finding that he was not in the quarters in the morning, the police staff went searching for him, but failed.

After a person visiting the milk dairy to deliver milk informed them, the police rushed to the spot and saw that Mallikarjun had hanged himself from a tree near the police station.

Mallikarjun was serving the police department for the last 29 years. He was transferred to Munirabad station in Koppal district three months ago and was serving there. KSRP staff are deployed to naxal area police stations on rotation basis once in 15 days for providing security to police stations. Mallikarjun was deployed here from May 16. He was to get relieved from Amasebail station on Saturday to return to Munirabad.

No immediate reasons for his decision to end his life could be gathered. He is survived by wife and two children.
